Day 7 – Jacob Lake to Natural Bridges

Up at 6:00. But that is actually 7:00 at our day’s destination since Arizona is on standard time and Utah is on daylight time. All times mentioned from now on are Mountain Daylight Time. We got on the road at 8:30. We mostly just drove.
We stopped at Marble Canyon Monument and walked out on the bridge crossing the Colorado River.
This is only 1 of 7 crossings of the Colorado for 700 miles.

We traversed the Navajo and Hopi reservations, passing through Tuba City, Kayenta and Mexican Waters, up into Utah.
The biggest thrill of the day was having to stop and wait for a herd of sheep and goats to cross the road. They have priority.

We passed through Bluff and into Blanding. This is Sunday and much was closed including the only grocery store.
We fill up with gas, $2.92 / gallon, and head for Natural Bridges. We arrive at 3:20 PM and enter the visitor center.
We introduce ourselves and they say they are expecting us. They showed us our digs. Unloading, unpacking, and meeting staff occupies the rest of the afternoon.

Interesting fact: the nearest Walmart is in Cortez, Colorado, 100 miles away.

The skies are clear but the Moon is full tomorrow. I have to wait until Thursday for the Moon to rise after dusk for a little while at least. This weekend should be good. Pray for clear skies.

320 miles today.
